"I was working as many as 60 hours a week. I could not get ahead. I thought it was impossible to attend college without a high school degree or GED. Tutoring and remedial classes prepared me for the Associate’s Degree Program. A flexible class schedule allowed me to keep my job. I earned my Associate’s Degree and received my diploma with my classmates. Now I am attending a four-year college and will someday own my own business. IF I CAN – YOU CAN!”

My Internship at a Wall Street law firm was

“I am the youngest of four and my father really wanted me to go to college. I dreamt of going to college in America. We arrived from Israel just a few years ago. My friend brought me into Interboro. My English was extremely poor, but friends and the instructors really helped me. What I like most are all the new friends and cultures. I hope one day, to own an optical store. I CAN – YOU CAN!”

“My manager and my manager’s boss constantly reinforced the importance of going to school and getting my education. Being able to achieve my GED [HS Equivalency] and work on my Associate’s Degree at the same time was huge. Attendance at class is at least 80% of the reason why I believed I’ve achieved such a high GPA. Today it is an Associate’s Degree and tomorrow it’s on to a Bachelor’s Degree. IF I CAN – YOU CAN!”

“I came here from West Africa just 5 years ago to get a better job. I’m supporting two kids and want to bring my brother to America. I had no HS Diploma and my English wasn’t very good. “Beyond needing to make a living, I sought a real career. I learned that Interboro offered a two year Paralegal Program [approved by the American Bar Association], started it in Spring of 2005 and completed the program in Spring of 2006. I was awarded an internship with the Legal Aid Society, where I was involved in filing court papers, motions, and subpoenas along with scheduling clients and organizing cases for hearings. This work experience will serve me well in the future. IF I CAN – YOU CAN!”

My baby will look at her mother and see a college graduate. Class of 2007 - Expected Graduate - Business Administration-Management - Started with No HS Diploma.

“I graduated High School from a program for underprivileged children. I noticed an Interboro poster with a young man expressing how good he felt, that he made his father proud. I said to myself, “I want to be that young man.” That same day I signed up to attend Interboro and never looked back. I have since learned to be a businessman and a computer technician at the same time. I credit my computer instructors for opening my eyes to the way things work in the “real world.” I have made my family proud. IF I CAN – YOU CAN!”

“I have two children. I am responsible for providing them with stability and a better start in life. I have learned to rise above the pitfalls, to look challenge in the eye and say, "You will not stop me." I have graduated Summa cum Laude and now have a full scholarship to a top NYC college. My boys will be inspired by me. IF I CAN – YOU CAN!”

“I’m a manager at an electrical company. My wife had finished college and my sons had grown up. I decided it was my turn to do something for me. I was a bit apprehensive at first, but they proved to me that there was nothing to fear. The instructors and staff provide life experience and an incredible motivation, even when I had difficulties adjusting to a death in the family. I tell people that are willing to make the commitment, “Interboro is the place to be.” It is a small, intimate setting with people who care. “I am most interested in pursuing a career in the medical field. My sister, the doctor, told me all about Interboro. I transferred my credits from another college and am studying to become a Medical Office Technician. I know that if you want something, you have to sacrifice. My son and husband are so supportive, and I know in the long run it will payoff for all of us. IF I CAN – YOU CAN!”

Interboro has the best Ophthalmic Dispensing program in NY. Class of 2007 - Graduating with Honors - Ophthalmic Dispensing - Started with a GED.

“I have an uncle who is an optician. I have always had an interest in working in the optical field. I researched and found Interboro offered the best Ophthalmic Dispensing program in New York State. [In 2005, every Interboro Ophthalmic Dispensing graduate who took the fall 2005 Ophthalmic Dispensing Basic Examination passed, leading them to a New York State License.] It was difficult at times, but my husband was very supportive and we alternated who cared for our son. The flexible schedule really helped. We’ll be moving and I’ll be starting my new career. IF I CAN – YOU CAN!”

“I dropped out of High School while in the 11th grade. I have a 5th grader and I thought of my son’s future. I didn’t want him to be able to say, “You didn’t go to college, why should I?” My son became my motivation. He and I would compete every week for the highest grades. Whoever’s was highest got to post the paper on the refrigerator. My husband was incredibly supportive and now I am the first in my family to earn a college degree. We are hopeful to, some day, open our own restaurant.IF I CAN – YOU CAN!”

“I was working in a jewelry store when a customer and I began talking about our futures. When I said that some day I wanted to open my own eye-care business, she suggested I look into Interboro. Now I know why. I just love the teachers here. They actually care about us as individuals. When I was caring for my newborn son, they would often call me to make sure I was keeping up with my studies. My classmates and I all study together and support each other. We are all studying together in preparation for the state license. IF I CAN – YOU CAN!”

“I came to America for a better job. I was previously educated in a Moscow Aviation Military School, however I found that this education did not help me here in America. My English was poor and all I could find were laborer jobs. I learned of Interboro and became interested in the Security Services & Management degree. The teachers and tutors were really patient with me. They offered their time to help me with the interpretation of material in English. I earned my Associate’s Degree from Interboro, my Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, and am now seeking my Masters Degree in Criminal Justice. IF I CAN – YOU CAN!”

“I just love and am addicted to video games. I find the challenge of trying to outsmart each game inspiring and I never give up. My family inspired me to do as my sister did, to attend Interboro. I became interested in accounting and after a short time I found myself as committed to my classes as I used to be to my games. If I couldn’t get something, I would be relentless in searching for an answer. I have successfully diverted the energy I use to put into a game into an education. I graduated last semester with a perfect 4.0. I am now seeking to earn my Bachelor’s Degree and hope to one day become an auditor.
